WINEMAKER NOTES

“Brillante”, which translates to “Brilliant” in Spanish, is Castillo de Feliciana’s signature sparkling wine. Made from 100% Chardonnay and harvested during the late summer season, “Brillante” is nuanced with aromas of green apple, biscuits, honey, bread dough, and subtleties of vanilla. A refreshing pallet of soft sweetness is balanced with bright acidity, creating a well-balanced flavor profile. 

This sparkling wine was produced using the time honored Méthode Tradionnelle. A second fermentation inside the bottle produces the fine effervescence and subtle yeast nuances. Upon completion of this second fermentation, the bottles are “riddled” to collect the yeast, “disgorged” to remove the solids, and finally corked for preservation.

The 2015 harvest was warmest on record for our Albariño, allowing us to craft a ripe and well-structured wine. Aromas of green apple, pear, and honeydew melon harmonize with classic varietal characteristics of orange, honeysuckle, lilac, and spring rains. In the mouth, the wine boasts a medium body and moderate acidity. The finish is marked by the slightest touch of residual sugar, providing important balance to this refreshing vintage of Albariño.

The tannins are wide and expansive on the palate, lending a balancing role to the medium body. Dark cocoa and light acidity mark the finish in this well-structured Tempranillo.

Garnacha is the Spanish pronunciation of the varietal popularly known as Grenache. The wine pours a shade of dark, ruby red, and immediately opens with dried fruits. An attractive, billowy layer of mousse carries aromas of golden apple, citrus peel, almond esters, and subtle water cracker notes. Tantalizing effervescence leads a clean and mildly weighted middle. A subtle presence of sweetness marks the finish of this well-balanced brut style sparkling wine.
